The SW&D Music Appreciation Thread - Page 7

thread needs some soul/funk

Isaac Hayes - Ike's Rap II (portishead sampled this shit for Glory Box)
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
Gap Band - Outstanding
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

would appreciate any recommendations for more obscure shit in this genre.

I was thinking about doing a primer on Aphex Twin since he's obviously important and blah blah blah, but instead I think I'll say to either name an Aphex Twin song or album you like or just a random word, and I'll send you one that you've never heard but should have, that has the same mood.

Speaking of Hella these dudes did a live split a while ago

that last ~2 minutes

I feel like you would like Siriusmo, if you haven't listened already: https://soundcloud.com/siriusmo

Could probably recommend a long list of stuff actually.

Jayceon's return to relevance? Sunday Service has been pretty good so far, and Jesus Piece is looking like a solid album. Cover art controversy will probably limit sales (they already made a different version).

A lot of people will accuse Game of morphing his flow to emulate whoever happens to be featured alongside him on a particular track. This is true to some degree, but I don't think it necessarily detracts from the songs in general.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Game "hvn 4 a gangsta" feat. Master P prod. DJ Premier
http://soundcloud.com/jesuspiece/hvn4agngsta-ft-master-p

Game "Hallelujah" feat. Jamie Foxx prod. Jake One

Game "black Jesus" feat. Dre (of Cool & Dre) prod. Sap

Game "celebration remix" feat. Bone Thugs N Harmony (song was inspired by first of the month anyway)

Game "holy water" -> video very NSFW so I'll just link the soundcloud

For more cuts like Outstanding, Classic Mellow Mastercuts Volume 1-3 is a great place to start.

Here's one, but not very obscure though... Keni Burke
