Tie is too long - the back blade is always sticking out - what do I do?

I have a pretty standard 56" knit tie and I'm 5'7" - but whenever I tie it with a FIH knot and get the front of the tie to come down to the belt buckle, the back of the tie is inevitably dangling a few inches lower which looks funny. Should I tuck the back piece into my shirt to hide it? Anyone else have this issue?

Ties can be shortened, though I've honestly never had it done. I'm about the same height and my ties usually end with the back blade ending at nearly the same length as the front. If it doesn't, and ends up like in your situation, I'll take the laziest approach and tuck it into my pants. It's not my primary concern as I'm heading out the door, honestly.

Maybe try using a half-windsor knot instead? I know it's not the standard knot for a casual tie like a knit but it actually doesn't produce a very bulky knot if you cinch it tightly to start, and it takes up a bit more fabric than the four-in-hand and produces a shorter back blade.

You can try wrapping the tie (for the knot) twice to shorten your tie.

Tie a double-simple (or double FIH). I'm 5'9", so I completely understand your plight.

Tuck the blade into your pants and be all sprezz.
