This thread is an off-shoot of The Official Thrift/Discount Store Bragging Thread. Over there, in amongst all the treasures and the mundane, we see any number of fake and phoney labels. And as thrifters, we often come across things that are just plain odd. Nothing we'd want to buy, but things we might want to at least tell people about. This thread thread is a place to document these. Who knows, maybe it'll eventually become a resource about fake labels and the full range of XXXXX Uomo lines. :smarmy:

Basic ground rules:
  • These should at least be seen "in the wild". There's no sense posting a photo of a Burrbury or a Zenga label that you've found online.
  • Photos are great but not all of us have camera phones handy. Despatch bulletins are alright.
  • As far as odd things go, let's try to avoid lookbook photos and fit pics. In some cases that might be like shooting fish in a barrel. Let hard work and serendipity reign!

I've seen a few things that have given me pause. The latest was a suit with a rather intriguing fabric that was Hand Tailored in Islamabad. But alas, no picture. My personal Holy Grail would be a horizontal pin stripe suit.

But I'll kick things off with a rather minor oddity. Not MC at all but strange nonetheless.

A Soviet tie.
It's in English so obviously for the export market.
Bonus points: which 5-Year Plan did this fulfill?
The most interesting thing about it is that the inter lining is a thick yet (somewhat) flexible sheet of plastic.

Was at a thrift shop sorting through ties and I came across a Burberry tie that seems a bit sketchy. I closely check the labels it has a big 100% silk label next to the Burberry label. Then further down the tie 100% polyester

I've wanted to contribute to this thread, but I kept forgetting to take pictures of strange things that I saw. I took a couple tonight, but they're actually just terrible fakes. I thought it would add to the knowledge pool anyway.

It looks like the labels have been sewn on with fishing line and they couldn't make a straight line for the life of them.
