It's not out of the realm of possibilities that I will stare at those long enough to weaken my resolve, but I should really reign it in. One black shell plain toe boot is niche enough, but with two? It would then be time to invest in some kind of motor bike.

Commando sole is good for NE winters :-)

Hi all,

Just placed my first order with Vass, with sizing advice trawled from this thread. I have high hopes for these puppies:

Last: New Peter (P2)
Model: 1085 chukka boot
Leather: Olive green suede
Sole: Double leather sole
Toe: Sunken metal
Lacing: Three holes
Size 43.5
Width: H

Generally I have a great fit in AE 5-65 last in size US10.5 EEE, so based on the collection of @peppercorn78 it should work.

Anyway, I'd just like to thank y'all for contributing to this thread, hopefully I can pitch in too.

Just to spam you guys, here's a pic of my current AE line up.

All in 10.5 EEE but for the Carlyle in 10 EEE.

The rotation also contains Carmina (UK 9.5 Detroit last), Barker (UK 9.5 G), Crockett & Jones (UK 9.5 G on 341 last) and Meermin (UK 9.5 Hiro last).

Cheers

Looking good, Markus! Interesting that we take the same size in AE but I got up to a 10 for Carmina and CJ.

Very nice! I've been eyeing a pair of H-width Vass chukkas. Please post some pictures, if you can.

I sure will - once I get them. I'll get delivery at a local trunk show in Stockholm, Sweden, in mid-September.

Semi-OT: a friend of mine visited Vass earlier this week and sent me this pic of the olive suede.

Vast now comes in H width?
Or is it a special make up?

I would have to try a RTW or sample pair that fit before I ordered MTOo.
I've have bad luck in the past - not from Vass.

H width is MTO only, but all the lasts are available in this width. I have 3: P2, F, and U. The U is still too narrow for me frown.gif

So, if I understand correctly, one has to take it on faith that the H width version of a particular last
will provide the extra width necessary and then order MTO. Typically, MTO shoes which do not fit
do not result in a full refund. This may sound paranoid, but my recent experience proves the need for
a try-on.

Yep, that's the vibe. But it's that way for most makers I can think of, other than Allen Edmonds, for the widest fittings.

Extra wides are all MTO only from Carmina, GG, EG, Alden, Bonafe, Vass, Lobb, etc. CJ offers 4 or 5 out of their 100 models in G, and everything else is special order.

Alden DC will order in 2Es or 3Es of stock models, and will accept exchanges for other sizes, but there is very little in stock that you can try on first, and orders take anywhere from 4-12 months. Every other Alden retailer I can think of requires nonrefundable payment up front.

I think that's just the way it is for most of us extra wide gents, sadly.

I have several pair of 11 EEE shoes that need a new home. PM if you are interested in tan Malones by Allen Edmonds or some vintage black long wing blucher Florsheim Imperials.
