i currently reside in sydney, and i certainly feel everything closes at 5, food is gone by 9-9.30

 The Rocks/Millers Point/Dawes Point/Walsh Bay has a good night time economy, but yes everywhere else in the CBD is dead (not counting shitty night clubs).
