Opinions on these ties?

The ties, from left to right:

  1. J.Crew grey wool tie
  2. Giorgio Armani silk black
  3. Giorgio Armani silk black
  4. Paul Smith tri-color stripe
  5. Gucci blue with "G" print
  6. Gucci

Please click on them to see the details. The Giorgio Armani and Gucci ties were from my father and I want to get them reshapen and slimmed to around 3 inches. What do you all think?

I would only consider using no 3. But to get them resewn sounds like a costly project.

I really like the J Crew.

The rest, not so much (though the third is tolerable)

1) OK
2) Logo tie - not my thing
3) Kind of OK
4) Stripes like that are generally OK, but this appears to be very shiny (not sure what effect the flashlight had...)
5) Logo tie - not my thing
6) Terrible

Of course, that comes from someone who does not know which emotional value those ties have for you (with some being gifts from your dad)

I think I have that same J.Crew. I personally like it.

Agree that the third tie is nice as well but am personally not a fan of the rest.

#6 looks like a fine tie. I guess you could use it for parties, just be aware that somebody could recognize it as fashion from past years.

Wow beautiful collection .Thanks

#3 and 6 are dreadful. Actually #3 is beyond nasty. The color/pattern remind me of wallpaper found in a 50s/60s american split level home just before it gets bulldozed.

#6 would be great for a Halloween costume as a mid-eighties pimp in Miami. Wear with white over-sized suit and a fedora. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Do not like. If you want them re-crafted and slimmed, check out Tiecrafters.

I don't think any of them are worth altering, but the J Crew one isn't bad looking.

Thanks for the responses! A few things... these ties are not sentimental to me, so don't worry about hurting my feelings. Also, the Paul Smith isn't as shiny or saturated in reality—it's just a shitty camera phone picture.

Anyways, I decided to keep the two Gucci ties. I would totally wear #5 if it were a bit slimmer and I am going to keep #6 around.

More opinions are welcome!

Same here. It's a pretty expensive process for ties that it sounds like you're marginal about to start with.

Good point. You are completely right. I guess I will alter #5 for now since that is the only one I truly like. How expensive is the process? From my research, it is around $15.

I imagine you'll get what you pay for with something like that. I suppose any drycleaner will think they can do it.

I'd guess that Tiecrafters (the only one I'd trust) would be about twice that but I've never actually looked into it.

I've certainly saved ties for sentimental reasons - like when I told my grandpa I liked his tie and he took it off and gave it to me - but haven't felt the need to wear them.
