Whom, if anyone, would you all find acceptable or exciting to take over YSL?

Raf jumps to mind to me. I could see them trying to pull in Alexander Wang, too, for some random reason although his Balenciaga tenure doesn't necessarily bode well.

the smartest thing the luxury houses could do instead of switching designers to ride the hype cycle would just be letting a truly successful designer's work redefine a house permanently. raf killed dior financially, if dior had just kept hedi's work in a permanent collection it would have done much better. why does a luxury house *always* need a designer, anyways? i mean lately their effect is more negative than positive.

I wasn't a fan of YSL before (Gaudi, etc) and Hedi really brought his A-Game here. It's going to be really weird to see anyone attempt to follow his fire. Speaking only from a Menswear perspective, Whoever they hire will need to be a super minimalist in order to follow in Hedi's steps ala KVA with Dior who did a pretty seamless job for the first couple of years.

One of Hedi's smartest moves is moving the atelier to Los Angeles and keeping his team under wraps, most likely so that other houses or YSL themselves don't pull a fast one and hire one of them (Gucci?).

It's safe to say that Vaccarello is already the next YSL CD. An old rumor that I've heard brought up again is that one of the stipulations in Hedi's contract was that Kering could place him in another house to do another revamping. While Chanel would be a good reason to leave YSL, I still wouldn't rule out his being placed in another failing house, which would be pretty unfortunate.

edit: what @neonrider said hehe. I also don't see Kering, or any fashion house ever putting their trust again in another designer like Raf and AWang. The reason they didn't succeed is because they are not collaborators. They are in a sense, Auteurs, very closed off and in their own world with a unique but very insecure vision, while Hedi, like it or not is a collaborater with a very focused vision. It's the difference between Truffaut and Hitchcock.

I would hope for YSL to promote internally. clearly hedi's team is full of talent and understand his vision. why not just let them continue to design around the permanent collection?

@scanner interesting about LA atelier and the unknown design team however. I wonder how, if at all, deliberate this decision was? really savvy business move if intentional, from a guy who wants to be above corporate strategy.

Hey guys, I'm struggling to choose between the L01 and L17 as my first SLP biker. YSL.com has the new season L17, in the nicer leather, that @neonrider posted a while ago.

Which do you guys prefer? I'm really torn.

It may have been a happy accident. Regarding promotion from internally, some people that I know that Hedi has personally hired and worked with or been in awe with have just as quickly been left behind by him or forgotten. He's a wildfire, I don't think the people he is being inspired by are at the level of 'Curate and Go' as he is. Very few have been able to take advantage and make use of the opportunities he provides.

I must say they are awesome fit, happy I am.

But the zipper is not bent or says slp like the fw13-14.
Fuck you slp for getting cheap on the production...

I've noticed they use two different zippers on the denim. I would guess it depends on the washing process.

Definitely go L17.  You can't go wrong with either, but the L17 is my hands down favorite.

A good friend of mine working with SL has just gotten back from the Paris Show Room and said there are some amazing pieces being unveiled (not related to the runway show on the 10th), but stressed that those looking for Permanent collection items should stock up while they can. There are already buyers working with SL and most have not seen anything Permanent and there are no plans to use any of the jackets, boots, etc for future use due to complicated design patents. Sneakers, t's, jeans etc are apparently available to repurpose but some of the boots, jackets as well as most tailor wear are under a strict design patent. I'm guessing Hedi learned his lesson with DH still selling his designs well after his leave.
