dont listen to him, he's a lazy idiot.

unless u are rich and dont care about running them to the ground and can get a immediate replacement. that only takes 2-3 years depending how much you wear. just lol at wearing them until its paper thin and looking fugly.

with topy/vibram soles, u get it replaced every 8-12 months and the boots last way, way longer than 2-3 years.

fucking lazy people, pathetic.

I picked up my first pair of Hedi 30 Chelsea boots and I am planning on going to a cobbler and adding a protective sole. I have never done this before and I have a few questions. Are you supposed to apply the topy/vibram sole when the sole of the shoe is worn down or when it is brand new? I heard that the cobbler will sand down the boots when applying the sole and I do not want this. I have not worn the shoes outside yet so if I apply the topy sole and replace it after a few months will the bottom of the shoes look brand new like how they are now?

Doesn't matter when you bring it to them, they are always going to sand it down some so the adhesive has a clean and rough surface to adhere to.  It would start peeling and falling off otherwise.  Not sure why that matters to you, once you topy them you aren't able to switch back to non-protected ever, you just replace it with a new one once it has worn through.

@needhelp123 same, I literally buy my boots and walk straight to the cobbler. Actually picking up my new suede wyatts up for the cobbler today. Only ones I haven't are my Santiags and gold wyatts because I don't wear them as much but will do em soon.

No walking in my SS16 Wyatts. They went straight to the cobbler.

I may be in the minority here, but I don't topy my shoes, for two reasons:

For one, I have a few pairs of boots that I rotate between, and because of the weather where I live, I'm mostly wearing sneakers so the boots don't get as much wear on average.

Second, and this is admittedly more emotional than rational, I just really like the experience of walking on leather soles. I find it very satisfying.

Obviously, if I was wearing the same pair of boots every day, I'd have to re-evaluate my decision. But it's a trade-off in my opinion.

Well said but my reason is I have to walk on marble floors every day and taken a few nasty falls before lol. I rotate all my shoes/boots and never wear it two days straight.

I'm the same. I have 4 pairs and each don't get more than 10 wears a year. They should last me a while.

i have a number of slp boots. never topyd any of them, because I often rotate and take really good care of them.

but I end up wearing my hedi leather chelseas and cropped jods (both black leather), most often. the jods are AW13 and have been through hell and rain etc. it was time for a new sole because they had a tiny hole which was letting in water and pissing me off. eventually all leather soles need to be replaced. so I broke down and got them topyd because they're my beaters now. picked them up today, and while they did a great job it is noticeable to my eye that the sole was sanded down ever so slightly.

by the way I had the boutique do it for me. so it wasn't a back alley job. and we are really just talking about less that a millimeter of difference.

I remain undecided if I will do the chelseas in time. im definitely going to pick up a back up pair. but im convinced now that the shoes don't come back identically.

it's still a win for me if I can wear these when it rains no problem.

yeah leather soles are slippery as hell, i've never fallen during the time i've not had them topy'd but i've had 2 embarassing slips, where i had to use my arms for balance.

i walk really fast as well so makes thing worse, i end up walking awkwardly in shopping centres and also when it is down hill

Anybody here washed their d02 raw? Was looking to tighten them up a bit and shrink. 2 cents?

I hate how the raw ripped don't match the knees etc

I have have double digits boots that I rotate between. Every pair except the VISVIMs (they already are on Vibram soles) and CP chealseas (crepe sole) gets topy/taps. YMMV.
