J.Crew Spring/Summer 2013 - Page 47

I historically haven't liked popover shirts. I've seen people wear them well. This pattern seems interesting:

Do those stretch at all?  I was considering getting a pair but decided they were too tight.

Yes, there is considerable stretch in the Garment-Dyed Jeans. I believe they are vanity sized at about plus two (i.e. 30" waist = 32"), and they will stretch another inch or more. I have the black pair, so I can't really comment on the pairs.

Actually I'm keeping an eye on the popover shirt. I do think they look good on the J. Crew (but then doesn't it all). May have to get one, especially if it goes on sale. I'll go for a bit subtler color choice than the one mentioned above however.

I saw the popover in short sleeve last summer and really hated it. But I think it looks much better as a long sleeve shirt.

If you can, go down.  They were quite big.

The skiff jacket is wool and quite warm. I'd say since the other jacket is cotton it will not be as warm as the skiff (although I haven't tried on the blanket lined jacket so you'll have to take this with a grain of salt)...

Well I'm pretty much done for this season.  If I can be arsed I'll post some comments since I bought a ton and must have tried on 90% of all their sweaters.  Anyway, a quick tip.  It's still 50% off sale in store.  My local stores are gutted in terms of sale inventory, but they will call online for you and online with honor the 50% off the online sale price and give you free shipping.  If they have the item in store and it's cheaper than online, then you can get that price plus the 50% off and free shipping.  You can get some great deals going this route.

I'm done for the season too. At least. I might be done with the Crew for a while aside from perhaps that popover shirt. It's all getting a little too samey, cubicle prep for me. I want to get into slightly more rugged things, more workwear looking.

I got some staple items from the last week. Surprisingly the ones around me (Los Angeles area) still had a lot of decent items in good sizes. I picked up some Harris Tweed jackets for 50% off the lowest price and another 15% off for student discount. I also picked up this shirt yesterday during lunch break. I spent almost the same amount on the lunch itself.

Links to my other on sale pick ups, don't wan to clutter the thread with many pics:

Haha.  I picked up all three of the sale Harris Tweed blazers.  Sadly no student discount for me though.  Still at 50% off the sale price and free shipping I'll take them.  For now my list is too extensive, but one of the best pickups I made was this Filson bag:

50% off the promo price for $149 plus tax and free shipping.

With the popover discussion, I'm fine with it in a short-sleeve version.  Now that I've slimmed down some I might try one this Summer.

They're still good for more rugged items and workwear.  I'd start with this:

https://www.jcrew.com/mens_feature/theliquorstore/shirts/PRDOVR~06871/99103188561/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20+225~~P_new_to_sale%7C1%7C%7CP_priority%7C0~21+16+4294967293~15~~~~~~~/06871.jsp?isSaleItem=true&isFromSale=true

Very soft, a lot of weight to it and even has the anchor buttons which are identical to the WWM versions I have from two years ago.  This one is nice too, but I may want to switch out the navy buttons:

I'd also have a look at the Chamois'.  Great shirt IMO.  Just about anything Wallace and Barns fits this category.  Skiff jacket is another piece, especially in Olive.

Apart from Crew you can try RRL.  Best is to call stores.  It's overrated and inconsistent from piece to piece in my limited experience this season, but when they get it right it's great.  Also have a look at Gentry NYC's site.  Post Overalls and a few other brands at good discounts.  Great customer service from them too.
