Advice on brand with similar fit to A&F ?

I'm a graduate student in a college town near Chicago.  If I dress shirt, people are going to mistaken me as professors.  

Could you guys suggest some other brands similar to A&F?  Preferably with the same fabric quality and construction (not those long sleeves for chimps).  I just find some of their clothing to be economical/practical for campus living.  If I dress a little bit formal, say cord jacket, then people are going to say, hey why you are so dressed up today?  Get a date or what?

Wow, the Rugby you suggest looks so nice!  I have some BB casual shirts, they fit great so long as I can find extra slim fit (I'm not that skinny...).  But their outwear such as jackets are way too formal for campus life (and too roomy unless I can find Milano fit).  Is there some thing with similar quality but more casual and fit?  

Does J. Crew offer quality products.  My shopping experience is just so-so, and they seem to overprice stuffs most of the time.  Thanks!
