Fascinating documentary on suits from BBC. Very insightful, but one question I had was why it seems like English suits feature wider shoulders than recommended on SF?

Jeez in Part 4, Paul Smith looks like a mess. White t shirt under his dress shirt? SFers would give him a 3/10 for his ensemble.

Stylistic choice. SF groupthink favors a minimal shoulder, the traditional english look doesn't. There's more than one way to cut a suit.

For my BBC, I wouldn't dare use wool. Latex is the only option.

I think the English cut looks much better than the unstructured cut favored in the forum.

When it is done correctly, it makes people look solemn, clean and smart.

I liked Sir Paul Smith's explanation of a good suit the best:

"It does the job . . . makes you feel elegant, important, sexy, tall . . . A good suit is like when you close the car door, and it's a nice car, it's got a sound about it, or if you got a knife and fork in hand and it's got a good weight about it . . . a good suit has that solidity and importance about it that equals craftsmanship . . ."
