I have a pair of wolverine 1000 mile boots. They are crap. ****** leather (the worst chromexcel I've ever seen, all blobby and veiny and stretchy) Poor construction. I hate them and regret their purchase.

I have redwing beckman's. I only wear them for short projects around the house because the last is very narrow and I need something wider. But, they are MILES above the 1000 miles in terms of durability and the overall quality.

If I got a pair of 1000 miles that had better selected leather, I would consider them a play boot. With better clicked leather, they would be my choice for the office. The Red Wings are very tough and almost as heavy as my White's Semi Dress.

The 1000 miles seem like they are good for just about that... 1000 miles. I'm waiting to throw them out. Now they see only motorcycle duty when my White's need a rest. Pics are of the horrid leather Wolverine considers acceptable. I some vibram Raptor soles glued on.

Would never buy again, unless I found them for less than 200 dollars.

So I've been looking for a pair of boots lately and the two most recommended boots that I've gotten have been the:

Red Wing Iron Rangers

and

Wolverine 1000 Mile

At first I always thought these boots seemed too bulky / boxy but I keep revisiting them because I can't seem to get an accurate picture in my head of how they REALLY look.
The reason is because they can look extremely flattering/nice in certain pics and not so much in others. I also can't see them in person because I am currently not in a place that has any stores with them in stock.

Here is what I mean by sexy / not so sexy.

SEXY:

NOT SEXY:

I honestly can't tell if its just the way the "NOT SEXY" ones are being worn or if they just look like that. The main thing that I am afraid of are thick toes and thats what some of these pictures depict.

I really want to like these boots but I am seriously riding the fence. I don't want to lug around a pair of "work boots" looking shoes. Especially because I'm on the shorter side (5'8-5'9) and bulky shoes would make me seem even shorter.

I also can't decide between the 2 shoes.

Can anyone offer any advice/suggestions between these 2 shoes?
IE:
sizing, quality, durability, color accuracy, etc.
Sole material? (iron ranger looks like rubber sole VS. Wolverine looks like leather sole)

I've generally got the vibe that both boots are great quality/durability. But color can vary from picture to picture and sizing can vary as well. (I'm typically 9.5/10)

P.S.

I believe I've already looked through many threads about these two shoes but if you feel like a certain pic/post on a thread would solve my issue please feel free to post, I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Thanks ahead of time.

EDIT UPDATE:

Are the dark brown iron rangers not popular? or are they not being made as much anymore?

Most sites either sell black/amber/hawthorne and exclude the dark brown color....why?

I know this is a late post but to answer the original question, the reason why the pics posted of "not so sexy" don't look nearly as good as the "sexy" pics is due to the pants being worn in the pics. Wolverine and Red Wing are both great looking boots . You MUST wear either boot with a pair a pants that are on the slimmer side in order for them to look good. I recommend a leg opening of no more then seven inches when laying and measuring the pants on a flat surface. I also recommend to search on Nordie Rack, eBay, Amazon, ect.... when purchasing either boots. I have 4 wolverine 1k mile and one Red Wing, alI have been purchased for around $150 each. You just have to look.

I don't have either of these boots, however, I comparison shopped both (and the Gentleman Travelers) heavily before I made my decision (I ran across a couple pairs of Leather Soul x Alden Shell Cordovan jumpers on sale). The Redwings were the better constructed, better materialed, better boot than the Wolverines for me, and would've gotten my money had I not found the Aldens.
