Deciding between MTM black label ~$1900 or trying to hold out for a deeply discounted purple label. I tried on an amazing purple label peak lapel coat for $1000 today in a 40R but I need a 40S. The fit was great but now I'm just sad about my 7 figure taste and 6 figure salary...Thoughts? Fwiw, 5'5 wear 29/30 pants.

You'll be happier in the long run IMHO if you buy, at least to start, nice staples that fit you rather than more exotic patterns and colors that end up on sale and don't fit you as well. I know it can be tempting, but it's a wiser path. Maybe consider getting suitsupply or something and saving to get something you love from rlpl?

My job only requires me to wear a conservative suit once every week so I don't care much. Most people in my industry dress pretty crappy anyway. I'm perfectly happy to have a closet full of high end seasonal suits and sport coats. Long way of saying, I think I'd be very happy with seasonal items with distinct patterns.

I don't mean just seasonal items, but also often (but not always) sale items are in colors or patterns that aren't easily worn with other things. This limits their use and you end up with a wardrobe that at best is a collection of good outfits and at worst is a collection of bad outfits.
