I hate the idea of wearing a traditional tux for a wedding so I was just curious what you guys...

If the wedding is during the day-time then a tux would be a bad option anyway. A 3-piece is certainly one possible alternative, or just a grey or navy suit. None of these options are 'non-traditional' though since they are arguably more traditional than the tuxedo, which has traditionally only been for evening wear and has only recently been co-opted for day-time weddings.

It's pretty traditional to wear a suit, particularly for a day wedding. The suit in your link looks great. I wore a navy blue suit for my wedding.

Jeremy Renner looks great, but a bit trendy in those shots.

I would consider keeping the suit, a white shirt, and a dark charcoal, but not black tie.

Definitely skip the black square - go with a high quality white linen.

Keep it 'current' with a nice slimish cut - not too slim though.

You don't want to look back 30 years from now and blush at how 'trendy' you were.

Oops, I only glanced at the pic. I like the suit. Not a fan of black squares if that's what he's wearing, so I'd definitely substitute it for white linen, as Gdot recommends. A white shirt is prob better for a wedding too, particularly if any of it's in the evening. A black tie would look good but might be more appropriate for a funeral.

Thing is I very rarely see anybody wearing a dinner suit traditionally and even rarely do they do it well. I would say go the traditional route but use the best tailoring and materials.

It may look "trendy" but he carried it off really well because of his built. But a slim or more tapered cut can flatter an average physique as long as the suit's materials are of great quality so it naturally follows your body's silhouette.

If the wedding is during daylight hours, my favorite is always semi-formal day wear, also called black lounge. This consists of charcoal DB or SB peaked lapel stroller with buff or light gray waistcoat, checked trousers, long silver tie. This never calls undue attention because those who do not recognize the ensemble will consider it as a dressy odd jacket and those who do will admire you for it. With matching trousers this coat is quite versatile, especially in DB style and can be worn for an evening wedding or any other momentous occasion. Only drawback is the bride will want you if you are not the groom, and every other woman in the house will want you if you are.
