Depends on your locale as well. In most of the world black shoes are still the proper business color.

But in the US there seems to be a general acceptance of dark brown and oxblood in all but the most conservative environments these days.

In any case, your first pair of dress shoes should be black to wear for job interviews. Nothing is more widely accepted as proper.
