Hey everyone,

I'm thrilled to present our Fall 2012 "Shortwing Boot Project" with Carmina and Styleforum! Here's some background on the whole thing:

1. I'm the co-owner and menswear designer of Epaulet - a New York-based brand with two shops and our e-commerce site.

2. In Fall 2011, we launched the "Carmina for Epaulet" capsule collection. It's a line of makeups and exclusive styles that we design in partnership with Carmina. We're their largest dealer in the United States.

3. Quickly following the launch of "Carmina for Epaulet," we began working with the Streetwear & Denim community to create unique makeups for preorders. This concept allows us to make interesting styles that would ordinarily only be available via single-pair MTO's. And by bundling the preorders together, we can offer them at a great price with proper Carmina shoe trees included. To date, we've done 6 of these projects, and they've proved to be very popular.

4. Earlier this year, we participated in the Styleforum Trunk Show in San Francisco, and I met with Fok (La Guy) over a fairly gut-busting meal at Tadich Grill. I told him about the exclusive shortwing boot that we planned to introduce this Fall and he thought that it would be great to offer a few interesting variants to the Styleforum community. The two of us cooked up three different ideas. Let me show them to you first:

1000

Steinbeck boot in Midnight Calfskin

1000

Sinclair Boot In Horween Saddle Shell Cordovan with Cognac Scotchgrain Plug

1000

Steinbeck Boot in Grey Suede

And now for the details:

1. The "Steinbeck" and "Sinclair" are two variants of the same style. The Steinbeck is heavier and more casual, which hooks & eyes and a combination rubber and leather sole. The Sinclair has a dressier profile with a leather sole and blind eyelets.

2. These boots are offered as a preorder item. From now until Monday, Sept 17th, we'll collect preorders and deposits on each of the styles. After the 17th, we'll compile all of the orders and submit them to Carmina for delivery in late Nov, early December.

3. Each preorder requires a non-refundable deposit: $350 for the calf and suede boots, and $500 for the shell boots. Each style will be cut to order, and as such, is final sale.

4. Solid wood fitted Carmina shoe trees are included in the price for each boot. Final price with trees is $685 for the calf and suede variants, and $950 for the shell. Shipping within the USA is free, and international shipping is available at an extra cost.

5. Both the Steinback and Sinclair are on the Forest last. This is the most popular last in our collection and it's one of the finest and best-fitting lasts that I've ever encountered. Its high toebox and rounded front gives it a very versatile shape, and it looks substantial without becoming too chunky.

6. The Forest Last is offered in a WIDE fitting. Although we don't have wide sizes built into the preorder items ahead of time, we can add those sizes by request. The Forest Wide is essentially an American "E" width. If you need a wide size, just drop me a PM and we'll add it into the drop down.

Please hit me with any feedback or questions that you have! We're really looking forward to this. If you have any questions on sizing, leather, details... anything... I'll be happy to answer them.

And I'll have something special to show all of you next week. We had the pleasure of visiting the factory this July, and I'm putting together a PDF photo book of what we saw. The craftsmanship at Carmina is really incredible, and I think that you'll dig the pics.

Dude, these are awesome. Just awesome.

And let me add that anyone who is disappointed that RL didn't make a shell Lindrick boot this season (just the black CALF one for $1100), this is a tremendous value and should speak to anyone who had interest in that shoe.

Thanks guys!

And this project is centered around the wingtip boots because that's the style that I designed with Carmina, and it's our exclusive shape. Epaulet's best known for items that can be dressed up or down (flannel trousers, tweed jackets, oxford shirts, canvas chinos), so I always felt that wingtip boots speak perfectly to what we do.

And man, if you've never worn a Forest-last boot, then you're in for a treat. The fitting on these is fantastic.

Are you still planning to bring in the Sinclair in cognac shell only (not the Scotchgrain shown above)?

^^What do you have in the store that's Forest Last? I neeed to nail the fit. My MTO Austerity Brogues are too big :brick:
Or non-shell. I need some boots.

We've got quite a few items there - the Fitzgerald shortwing, the Thompson plaintoe, and we've got the actual Sinclair and Steinbeck boots there. If you swing by the Manhattan store, the guys should be able to fit you.

Are you still planning to bring in the Sinclair in cognac shell only (not the Scotchgrain shown above)?

Yup, that's definitely on order. Cognac shell is currently out of stock at Carmina, but I'm hoping that more comes through soon. We've got the Saddle shell for this makeup already secured.

Grey suede is amazing.
:slayer:

Haha, that one is all La Guy. He's a grey suede fiend!

Im only familiar with the Simpson last - whats the 123 tutorial on the difference?

The Simpson last is one of the slimmest that they offer, but I would recommend that you order the same size in the Forest. The fit's going to be different, but not necessarily too wide - and we have quite a few customers who comfortably wear both of them. I'd call the Forest a true medium width, and the Simpson a narrow-medium. We do have quite a bit of stock in the Forest last, so anyone in the NYC area is more than welcome to swing by our Manhattan shop for a fitting. You can see the exact Saddle shell cordovan in person there too.

Great job on these... I will have to stop by the Manhattan store to get fitted. Struggling on deciding which one to order...
