Bow Ties - Page 4

Just started making bow ties and have a lot a questions that I was hoping anybody can help me with. I am an artist that works in Bess Wax and Oil paint and have my designs printed on silk.

So here are a few questions-

 

• Do you like silk or any other material?
• Do you prefer clip. adjustable snaps, or a adjustable hook?
• The ones below are with a adjustable hook.and already made. Do most men prefer to make their own bow ties?

• Personally, I'm happy with silk, cotton, linen, or wool.

• I prefer an adjustable hook, but would really rather the tie were custom made to my neck size.

• I only wear self-tie bow ties and would never wear pre-tied or clip-on ties.

Of course, you're dealing with clothing hobbyists here, so the answers you get from other sources may be different.

 

 I like the silk bowties because they're easier for me to tie. I also like the hook option to select the length.

 

 Someone like Tirailleur1 might go for a design like one of yours.

 

 The red one might be cool for me.

Thanks for the info. I took them to a show and men suggested to make them with the hook in the back or use snaps. The response was to make some that you can tie.

 Let us know when you make the new ones that we can tie ourselves. I may get one.

Thanks for all your feedback. Will do some new ones next week! I am going to make them with a hook on the back and self tie! I am also going to paint some silk and do the ties with that too. I think they will come out great.

 

I was watching American Idol last week and noticed they guy are going hip with bow ties!

Have been thinking about buying a bow tie for a couple weeks now, saw this thread - didn't know it was getting popular.

Couple questions - someone mentioned not to wear them with a 2 button suit? Is that true?

Any insight on choosing between cotton/linen/silk and specific tie types beyond personal preference?

 

 Ha ha...I don't know where he gets this idea about "only 3 button jackets".
