monocle magazine - Page 2

Monocle is edited by Tyler Brule, who also founded Wallpaper magazine, I believe. And he used to have a great column in the FT Weekend.

I think it is pretty good, albeit the international jet set conventional wisdom about urbanity stuff is starting to get a bit tired. I must prefer the writing on the Afghan narcotecture, that breakaway province in Georgia (interesting to constrast our view of that v. Kosovo btw), etc.

A subscription is ridiculously expensive, far above the newsstand price of the magazine. They are claiming that you get access to some super-cool web site stuff, but I'm not sold on it.

It appears to have a hefty marketing budget as I always see this prominently displayed in Borders, etc.

I think it's a great peice of work. Great design. Soem short articles, some long. I do agree it is a bit eliteist but.. whatever.. I also liek the idea of covering one overall topic per magazine.. reminds me of THEME & GOOD

Holy crap, 150 dollars for a yearly subscription!! Which is also more than the cover price... Though their website does say with a yearly subscription you get extra online access.

I've been planning on buying a couple of books, so I'll have to get a copy of this when I go to the bookstore. Skimming over their website makes one assume it is a pretty good magazine.

i was just reading the november issue last night and every time i read the "kita koga" manga in the back of the magazine, for some reason the lead character, niels watanabe, reminds me of our SF poster jason/get smart ..... i think it's the fit of the clothing that seems to mimic jason/get smart's style

this is the only good online link i could find:

You do have to read that comic "backwards" right? It didn't make sense to me otherwise. Anyway, yeah, nice magazine. I'll probably keep buying it off the stand.

It's worth the $ for the quality and comprehension of the content

Monocle certainly is my favorite magazine the Quality of Life Survey in the latest issue is wonderful, although scary that only ONE American city made the list (Honolulu). Portland, however, made honorable mention... What do folks think about Portfolio magazine?
