Which suit for my interview?

I have an interview tomorrow on campus for a large conservative law firm.  I have two suits I could wear.  The first is a solid navy, but it is a cheaper suit bought off the rack (later tailored slightly) but not as nice as the second suit.  The second, is a gray pinstripe that is MTM and more expensive (and in my opinion looks it).  Either way I planned on a white shirt and a red patterned tie.

 

Which suit is more appropriate?

Either one is fine as long as the pinstripe isn't too crazy. Like reasonably spaced stripes, not in electric blue, etc.

Depends on the stripes, in general plain navy would be better; however, if you feel more comfortable in the grey suit and the pinstripes are not OTT, wear the grey suit.

Either will suffice if the pin strips are discreet. So if you feel better in that then wear it.

However it is you that is being interviewed not your clothes and not your tailor...

Thanks, great advice and I really appreciate it!  I know they are interviewing me however the best presentation really raises my confidence.

 

Is red the best tie for grey pinstripe?

Maroon should work really well with either. I've seen others take issue with a more primary red, and I tend to agree.

Any primary colors look kind of cheesy to me in a tie. Good red:

Go for the one with the better fit. IMO the better fit can overcome colour and style. Don't be avant garde with the choice of tie for an interview, navy or black should do.

The MTM pinstripe that fits well and is made better. You'll look better and likely feel more confident wearing it. Good luck!

Do n't worry too much about the suit, both are good. Just focus on what you're going to say during the interview.
