Anthony Delos sells out to LVMH

Apparently it’s the hot news on the French shoe forums, Anthony Delos has sold his firm to LVMH (owners of Berluti). His workshop will be owned by LVMH and Delos and his staff will be on the conglomerate’s payroll.

I have no idea, whether LVMH wants to promote the name Delos as a bespoke maker (and might produce a Delos ready-to-wear range at some point in the future) or if Anthony Delos (the man) will just be absorbed as an employee into the Berluti firm and the name Delos will disappear.

What a shame that a craftsman as talented as Delos cannot make it financially on his own.

Frankly, I can't see why the Evil Empire would have any interest in a tiny tiny brand like Delos. They'll probably have the man manufacture bespoke shoes for one, or a few, of their fashion labels.

Too bad. I wonder if he is going to do the Berluti bespoke operation and if he will be based in the recently bought out Arnys site.

Sad news. Delos is not big enough of a brand to be marketed himself, so he will most likely be folded into something else operationally?

btw, doesn't Berluti has its own bespoke operations?

Further diversification of their service portfolio, street cred, etc.
Delos is now a brand with a whole new level of resources behind them, access to a whole new customer base and distribution possibilities.

With a small one-man bespoke outfit? Highly unlikely - that's hardly's LVMH's MO.

Probably the corporate knowledge at the high end bespoke may be their intention.

I hope they are not going to downgrade Delos' shoe quality.

I don't know the details of the deal, but maybe he just got a great offer. LVMH is generally not in the business of buying distressed properties. Maybe they saw a chance to get a good niche brand, and offered a good price and resources he would not have had access to otherwise?

A brand can be built. It seems unlikely that LVMH bought a niche brand just to close it.

I can't think of a better reason aside from building out the brand via their operations, manufacturing and disrto.

What do you think?

Oh well, that's another brand I can expect to see plastered(and misspelled) all over crappy T-shirts in the coming months.

What were Berluti and Corthay originally? John Lobb? Honestly the name has a nice ring to it and could definitely be marketed as a brand.

They were much more than Delos, i.e. a one-man bespoke operation of little repute beyond Paris (and SF).

There's no pt arguing about this. We can just wait to see how this plays out - I wager that AD will be making bespoke shoes for some of the high-end fashion brands in LVMH's stable before long.
