Ran across this and thought it was worth putting in the thread for this year's US Open Tennis tournament, and then saw there was no such thread yet. So here we go.

Precis: Army minesweeper, aged 23, loses leg to land mine in Afghanistan, becomes US Open Ball Boy.

^^^

jesus h., who do you have to piss off to get the job as minesweeper :fu:

Good for him and I hope this leads to even more opportunites for him.

As to the US Open, I was there for the Duval/Clijstets match and very impressed with the 16 year old. She has a ways to go but I think we will be hearing her name in the future.

I love attending early-round US Open. I had the privilege of going a few years back when a friend scored awesome early round corporate tickets. It was a while ago - we got to see Marat Safin from the 2nd row, and had night seats to watch Serena. But the best part really was just wandering down around the side courts where a lot of up and coming players were playing and getting to watch from literally right there courtside. Gave me a totally different appreciation for how hard they hit, how much spin, how fast they are, the sounds of the balls on the strings. And in the meantime, as you wander the grounds of the tennis center, top players are walking around to their matches or practices. It was pretty freaking cool; I'd love to do it again sometime. Must have been fun to go, Ed.

I didn't see him but I did see a teenage ballgirl with a prosthetic leg at Court 11.

I was at the Berdych match and the commentator was saying that if you google Berdych, the next most popular searched item was "Berdych girlfriend". So naturally I had to look.

What do you ya'll think of Federer's clothes here? And no he aint shopping at Uniqlo (who sponsor Djokovic) actually the Lindt store is right across it apparently.

For an athlete seems pretty good. Not a fan of the white shirt but everything else is fine. What shoes are those? Also any idea what denim?
