I agree that the current system sucks, but the problem with your proposal is recruiting. Coaches already have trouble keeping recruiting classes together when they take over at a new school; spending 4-6 weeks without a coach would be catastrophic for a program.

But that's where you say "Fuck the coaches." There's just an inherent disregard for the players in every conceivable scenario in college sports.

Tommy Tubberville just quit to become the new HC at Cincy. A lot of Texas Tech people are overjoyed.

I wouldn't consider that really a lateral or even upward move (State of Texas bias). Texasmade, are you happy about the move?

Very happy. Tubberville just wasn't a good fit for us. The way he coached made the games boring. Tubs also consistently lost at home and you could tell attendance was shrinking whenever the games were on TV and there were large portions of the stands empty.

Cincinnati fans can expect some huge wins against teams you are supposed to lose to and blowout losses to teams you're supposed to beat. Both will leave fans scratching their heads.

Longhorns really shat the bed this season but pulled off winning their bowl game. Thank you, defense, for finally doing something in the 4th quarter.

Bad bowl season for the Pac-12 so far: While the two Arizona teams won their bowl games, the Bruins got clobbered badly by a 7-5 Baylor team, the Beavers got edged by Texas, and the Trojans just got whipped by a 6-7 Georgia Tech. (They ought to fire Lane Kiffin!) It will be interesting to see how Stanford and Oregon stack up in the next couple of days.

Baylor has been playing like a top 20 team since November. They had a couple tough losses, but they're legit.

Les Miles outcoached himself once again.  Up 2, ball at your 40, less than 2 minutes remaining, and Clemson has all 3 timeouts left and he throws 3 straight passes.  What the hell?

First pass was brilliant and had the surprise factor. The second would have worked if Mettenberger could've thrown it a yard deeper or shorter, but not a very sound call given they needed two yards. The third call was awful. I'm a fan of Miles given how quirky he is, but after they had that sequence I was just hoping Clemson would drive the field. That fourth down pass for Clemson was incredible: from the back angle you couldn't even see the receiver between the two LSU guys.

That Tech win was one of my upset picks for this bowl season, and it was the one in which I was most confident. That ridiculous offense they run is really hard to beat the first time you play against it. It gave Georgia (and most of Tech's other regular opponents) fits for about one season. Then they "solved" it, and now Tech is back to mediocrity. USC doesn't have the luxury of playing Tech annually, so the Trojans were ripe for getting beaten by an offense that hasn't seen widespread use since before its players were born.

It also didn't hurt Tech's chances that USC clearly didn't want to be in that bowl in the first place.

I agree with everything you said.  Tahj Boyd played one hell of a game because LSU was lighting him up every opportunity they got.  And that 4th and 15 conversion, wow is all I can say.  If Saban ever leaves Bama, I would be happy with Dabo Swinney as his replacement.
