SEC is funny that way. SEC team wins a bowl game, and instead of chanting their school's name, they chant the name of the conference. Southern pride or something.

The real question is how the conference newbies will react when they're beaten and get the S-E-C chant. I mean, how do you respond to that as a fan?

The chanting is kind of unique. I guess it's like family - I can hate them, but no one else can. I'm trying to remember if we did the U-G-A chant at the game, too, but I don't recall.

One of the AJC sports columnists pretty much blasted Ed's GSU today.

We'll be wondering what the hell they're spelling. SEC SEC SEC. Some of the more long-running Texans among the fans will no doubt be thinking S-E-C-...E-D-E which is what's on every Texan's mind from time to time. If we were a Republic again, we wouldn't have to deal with that Mitt Romney BS or Federal Taxes or any of that nonsense.

I have no idea lol. "But we're in the SEC now, rite?" followed by depression at the knowledge they'll be getting their asses kicked religiously for the indefinite future.

At the Hawaii game, they were chanting "U-G-A" during the 2nd and 3rd quarters, then when it was an ass-whipping of comical proportions, they did the S-E-C chant to just illustrate the level of cosmic dominance IIRC. I can't remember if we did it during the OK State game in Athens, definitely did during the first Boise State game (in 2005). The Boise State game was hilarious, they were so obviously terrified to be playing in a huge stadium in front of insane fans (and Sanford isn't even all that loud), plus the talent level. A lot of their players said after they beat OU that losing to UGA opened their eyes to what real prime time football was all about.

I've heard from multiple sources that other SEC teams hate the UGA barking more than any other school's cheer. Accurate? Didn't grow up down there so I don't know many other real SEC fans outside of UGA.

I find the Arkansas cheers hilarious, and the South Carolina call-and-response of "GAME --- COCK" is pretty funny as well. The "Roll Tide" thing is obnoxious but mostly because I remember it from when they kicked our asses when we were #2 in the country shog[1].gif

Michigan State is playing really sloppy tonight against Boise State. A lot of missed opportunities. I thought they'd be better than what I'm seeing tonight. confused.gif

Thank you, Le'veon Bell, for saving me from heartbreak. Good lord the defense deserved a lot better than a four point win. At least they got through tonight.

I'm not too familiar with SEC schools' quirks and what-not, like Florida fans known for wearing jorts and LSU fans being called "corndogs", but isn't Tennessee known for their annoyingly repetitive playing of "Rocky Top" during the game?

There's a guy around here who has an SUV with a Georgia tag and a Texas "secede" sticker. It's...confusing. I can't figure out if he's a Texan ex-pat or someone who really wants to get rid of y'all.

I was at the OSU game in Athens, but I can't remember what was chanted, either. Poor BSU was just completely outmatched in that game, but I suppose they got their payback.

I've never heard anyone complain that our barking is worse than other cheers, but Horns is right about UT. Hearing "Rocky Top" on infinite repeat is awful.

YES

The helmet rule is asinine. During the UF game, a guy lost his helmet right before a timeout, but he still had to miss a play. What's the point of that? The TO is going to have him off the field longer than sitting for a play would have, so what's the benefit of making him do both? It was also an issue during the AU-Clemson game, where Clemson's QB kept having to leave because his helmet came off. The guy's missing critical downs because a defender put him in a headlock and his hat came off. That's just stupid.

This one doesn't make sense to me at all. My understanding is that if the helmet is knocked off, then that's okay, but if it comes off on its own, so to speak, then the player sits one play. I don't get it. confused.gif
