Anyone playing?

A couple of my friends have been looking forward to it for a very long time (but don't plan to sink huge streaks of time into it) so I agreed to give it a go. Got back into town last night and the download was so unbelievably large that I wasn't actually able to play.

I've played a bit of WoW (well...at least enough that I could sell my account for $300 in the first expansion pack) and it looks to me like some of the changes in GW2 will be quite refreshing, especially as a more casual player.

Will have to decide on a profession...I'm thinking thief even though I usually swing towards casters/mana-based ranged attacks in RPGs (my WoW main was a shadowpriest and my favorite pvp alt was a frost mage). The combat system seems pretty lively and movement will probably important which will keep the stealth/agility based class entertaining.

I think I will be playing on Borlis Pass (although I saw somewhere that server transfers will be free for a while since the servers have had overcrowding issues at launch)

Quick bump.. I play it (already played GW1) and it's pretty good. Haven't had time to play a lot so far and am just level 24 or something but also played some PvP.
I'm playing a Mesmer on Desolation. Feel free to add me (Malo X). How do you like it so far?

Been enjoying it a lot. Played to about level 26.

A very fresh take on the MMO...I love that everything gives you experience. Several of my levels are from crafting and I imagine several more will come from PvP once I start doing it.

sPvP gives no XP. Likewise, WvW doesn't earn you "honor" (but XP and money).
Which class are you playing?

And true, it's a real different take. No such thing as tanks and healers anymore.. everyone is doing everything. Much more dynamic.

I'm playing a thief. Using shortbow most of the time for trash and dynamic events and sword/pistol for melee and when I need a bit more damage (since this combo still hits multiple targets if they are close together).

Playing with shortbow is almost like playing with a caster class (which is what I usually play in games) and is great for picking up loot in group events since with all of the AOE (even the primary attack hits multiple targets) means you score a hits on every monster and thus can pick up loot from everything.

Still figuring out what skill combos work out the best...I just unlocked the passive skill that increases movement speed 25% and I don't think I will ever get rid of it...running faster is awesome!

Yeah, I often have problems as a mesmer to tag every enemy and therefore miss out on quite a bit of loot.. meh
What's your ingame nick?

Should work nonetheless. I can add anyone who plays on other UK, DE, ... servers. Shouldn't be a problem with US servers. One can even form a group. Just the area join doesn't work, unfortunately (would be a nice thing for overflow servers in the future. Real progress to be able to play with friends from other servers).
I think the whole trading post is combined for all servers in all regions. Will be fun when China gets their version. wink.gif

Can you solo in this game and have it be worthwhile? I'm itching to get back to the next ex-pac in WoW but just don't have the time and energy to be a guild MT which is really the only role I enjoy in a dungeon.

Can I just craft and make the fat lewt and get exp?

Want to check out the new dungeon content. The best part about being an MT and new content is I get new fights to learn.

The challenge mode concept seems kind of interesting, at least for e-peen purposes.

Super solo-friendly. I've only grouped up a couple times and that was just to play around a bit with friends.

It does away with the traditional roles...there's no power healing and as such there can't be a normal main tank (since you have to be able to take the damage *without* a flow of heals coming in). Haven't really gotten to do the dungeon content yet but it is there.

Crafting can actually level you most of the way there (and you have to get the materials so unless you buy gold, you'll probably end up earning the rest of the levels farming mats and gold). Maxing a crafting skill gives you about 10 levels and there are 8 crafting skills...but most people won't do all 8.

But be careful, crafting is expensive.

Yeah, the game is easy to play solo. And you won't feel lost because of all the dynamic events. Moreover, and what's really good (for me at least laugh.gif), you don't have to pay monthly fees. And you can access the complete ingame store without paying any cash (you just trade gold into "gems", the currency of the ingame store) which is pretty damn great.

I think you'll have quite a bit of fun. The dungeons are much harder (in the beginning at least) because, like otc said, there's much more teamwork involved and it's much more dynamic. You can't just stand in the back as a caster and bomb the targets down while one tank tanks the whole group of enemys. Now, you need to really arrange the CDs, CCs and so on. Better? We'll see. Different? For sure.

You're not a PvP guy, are you? sPvP isn't so great as of now (zergfest, you get rewarded for playing stupid and so on). Much potential. Haven't played tournaments but I guess that's where the real tactical fights take place. Anyway, I'm very positive about the possible outcomes of sPvP in the near future. PvP in GW1 was great, and they didn't fire all their lead designers, did they? wink.gif

And yeah, leveling is different. You really don't have a questlog anymore that's full of thirty quests. You just explore the area, see "hearts" which kinda are quests that don't have to be accepted or turned in (automatically). The most important aspect of leveing probably are the dynamic events. It's an interesting concept and has lots of potential. Like quests, it can get a little boring because it's repititive, but at least it's something different.

Looting is for everyone. If you've tagged an enemy, you get loot too. If you want to harvest/mine/chop something and somebody else was just a second quicker, it's still there for you.

I think my favorite part of the hearts is that you get credit for doing things even if you haven't talked to the quest giver yet...

Sucked in WoW when you would end up killing a bunch of boars that were getting in the way while you were doing one quest...only to discover that there was a quest in the next town that wanted you to kill 20 of those same damn boars!
