How do you define middle class in manhattan? $200-300k per year but struggling?

I have been offered to relocate for 9 months next year - but after reading this thread, I'm a little put off.

Would it be more cost effective to stay in a hotel for these 9 months or to let a property?

many thanks in advance..

Probably, figuring that a decent school is 30-40K a year, 200K isn't going to carry you far with two children.

I'd say $150 (struggling) with 1 kid. $300k is a lot of dough in any city. A shitty 2 br apartment is $5k a month so almost half your income goes to RENT. No mortgage deduction, nothing.

You could live like kings in some smaller cities on 150k a year so why would anyone choose to live like paupers in Manhattan?

well this thread has really gone to crap recently. Can we make a thread about a city I know nearly nothing about and have never ever lived in so I can comment continuously about it and make grand pronouncements that make all readers roll their eyes? Thanks!

Lets make a thread in which we talk about TV shows we don't write/have no advanced knowledge of so we can comment continuously about it and make grand pronouncements about outcomes?

Here's a description of a 2br apt for $4,650 on East 84th St:

Fabulous 2 bedroom with 27 ft. living room plus balcony, 2 full marble bathrooms, Bosch washer/dryer and a windowed eat-in-kitchen with granite counter tops and all new stainless steel appliances. Split bedrooms offering a huge master bedroom (17.9x 11) and corner second bedroom with wall of windows! All new beautiful floors throughout.

This luxury building has 24 hr doorman, concierge, sundeck, top floor Health Club & pool which is included in the rent. West of Third Avenue. Close to all major transportation & just a short walk to Central Park, museums, and some of the best shopping & restaurants. Pied-a-terre ok.

I know, I know, the horror of living in such a place.

Kids adapt because they don't know any different.

Yeah, it's a shame how cities combine a dense concentration of museums, parks and playgrounds with a wide range of ethnicities, foods and cultures. I'm glad adults haven't been exposing children to them since Jericho 12,000 years ago.
