Your opinion of Duane Reade would be totally turned on its head if you lived in Brooklyn. Soon you realize everything at DR is 1/2 the size of Target or Key Food and 2x the price, for the same brand. Occasionally DR has some good markdowns on cleaning supplies, but in general Target wins.

Continuing on this theme: Trader Joe's is a death trap where you are liable to be crushed by the checkout queue that you must enter immediately upon walking into the store. Hopefully you can reach your items from the path of the line. Both Agata & Valentina locations are filthy, Citarella is only marginally better. I typically go to Fairway on 6 Av or Red Hook if my neighbor is driving over there. Whole Foods Markets are also a death trap except for the Bowery and Gowanus locations, which are rather manageable if you don't go on a weekend.

Special note:

If you go anywhere near downtown Brooklyn and are not white, you can expect to be accosted by people on the street for "looking good/being well dressed". This has happened to me at least 4 times when walking from Atlantic Terminal to the only Chase ATM in the entire area near Nevins St.

Try the Blonde roast. It's bearable.

For all intents and purposes, Williamsburg =/= Brooklyn. Despite this, I see no need for name calling.

I am not sure Costco is any cheaper (if it is, it is marginal) and my daughter, who is the main cashew eater, is highly allergic to certain other nuts (especially almonds). TJ is one of the roasters most reliable in not cross-contaminating. I know we have had bad experience with Fairway. Don't recall about Costco specifically, but we tend not to experiment if we can avoid it.

Costco is glorious. I even get prescription drugs there (no membership required) - otherwise I only go when my friend who possesses a member card goes (as I do not). In Brooklyn you can go to Brooklyn Liquors attached to the building which also requires no Costco membership.

You can generally assume that I am expressing myself sincerely in my posts. Although after taking a second look at the last post, I'll admit I don't go to the boutique to keep it viable. I go there because it is closest. If Starbucks was closest, I would go to the 2nd closest option.

I have a strong dislike of Starbucks which is 90% based on the taste of their coffee, 5% the price, and 5% the fucking dreadlocks and hot pink hair and tats on their "I went to college and do night poetry now" """"""baristas""""""".

I have. It sucks less but still sucks. It like they add a teaspoon of acid and 2 tablespoons of burnt asshole to every cup.

WTF. In Italy there is delicious coffee everywhere, cheap. It takes like two seconds to make a cappucino and they're 1 Euro and they're not scalding hot so you can drink the mother-fucking things RIGHT WHEN YOU BUY IT. OMG!!!

WTF.

Why don't you get your own card? Costco is not exactly the Union Club.

Heh. I have seen people from Italy get in near-violent confrontations with Starbucks "baristas". They are particularly annoyed by starbuckese. Watching a 22 year old Starbucks employee lecture a native Italian about proper coffee is a thing of beauty.

the 99 cent bodegas that are all over Williamsburg are just stores owned by Asian people who re-sell things they buy in bulk from Costco. I don't mind paying a buck extra if it means I don't have to store 85 rolls of toilet paper.
