It certainly has something to do with the proximity of so many people. Here on the West Coast, I can go days without coming into contact with more than a very few.

For a variety of reasons, I've spent altogether too much time in hospitals in my life, and have grown obsessive about washing my hands and using hand sanitizer. I try to avoid touching anything when I'm on BART or Muni, but if I am forced into contact with the seat / straps / whatever then my first priority upon arriving at my destination is washing my hands.

I'm picking up on a theme with you.

 

My wife went to see Glengarry Glen Ross tonight and ordered a drink before the show. It didn't come with ice. The bartender explained that Mr. Pacino finds ice rattling in glasses distracting.

I think they should offer Jeroboams of Cristal at GGR and charge SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS for them.

Before he became a movie star Cary Grant occasionally won parts in plays because his balance was so good that he could carry an old fashioned across the stage without the ice cubes clinking against the glass.

it varies... it can be $13 ( paid by cash) and as low as $8.25 with the EZ-pass and off peak.

what pisses me off is that the Tri-boro bridge (oh sorry yeah the RFK bridge) is almost $6.00 both ways. at least the other major bridges (GWB) only charge on inbound to NYC.... the tri-boro is a fucking wallet raping for commuters and often is just as traffic laden to and from exacerbating the fact that you pay a fucking toll either way.

NY EZ pass is essentially free (if you only get email statements and refill using a credit card). Its also compatible with all the other major electronic fast tollways in other states. Couple that with cheaper tolls [using EZ pass] it makes sense to have one even if you only rent/borrow cars.

Nope. My dad has one, but I do not travel into the city that often/never saw any great inconvenience in stopping for 6 seconds and handing someone money. I've shared quite a few nice conversations with some tollbooth workers from doing so.
