Was thinking the same thing when I was reading that.

I'd cancel any trips to the Big Apple for the next few months if I were you...New York City is about to burn.  The new New York is about to meet the old New York.  And old New York is very very angry

^ Can't tell if serious.

Just came back from 2 weeks in NYC and had a pretty good time all things considered. Amazing variety in weather (from the 20's to the 70's) sometimes within a couple of days! Did our annual wardrobe refresh courtesy of SoHo (I guess just the RRL store on Broadway for me this year).

Also thanks to Gomes and others for the restaurant tips. On account of the little one, we weren't able to go to some of the restaurants we wanted but did make it to Minetta Tavern, Ippudo, Katz' and Hage Sake all with the tyke who enjoyed everything. Next time we'll need a baby sitter.

Check the breaking news about Eric Garner case.  It has the potential of making Fergusen look like a church picnic

not gonna happen (from a "destroy your community" level). probably going to distrupt a few events that happen at this time of year.

Can confirm. I've had gizzards before but the texture was unpalatable after a few bites. Place is amazing otherwise.

I am afraid you don't know much about the NYPD.

Also, my apologies to NY posters if I have previously had insufficient empathy around the issue of shitty buskers playing in subway stations. In particular, bad flute playing in that enclosed space is particularly grating.

Oh, and 11 Madison Square (or whatever it's called) is good eats.

My father was career NYPD (83rd precinct), one of my younger brothers is a captain on the force and my best friend growing up is a lieutenant on the force (can't remember which precincts).  I might know a little...

What I do know is the numbers of blacks and latinos of NYC alone exceeds half of the population of 8 million.  Even if only .05% of those people resort to civil unrest you are still talking about well over the numbers of people in Fergusen.  Things could get very bad very quickly

Well, sorry, no offense meant against your family.

But my experience with the NYPD (which includes working with them rather closely) is that they are way more on the ball than any other force in the country, and also quite a bit larger, in both absolute numbers and relative to population. So it almost has to be Armageddon before something life Ferguson can happen here.

De Blasio may do his best to hollow them out, but it's not even been a year yet so they are still strong, I think.
