speaking of priced out ... fucking Tropicana orange juice is $5.79 at Duane Reade. WTF.

I drank like 2 gallons of it when I was upstate since it was only like $2.50 for a jug.

I get that a local supermarkets when it is 2/$6(or is it $5.)

I'm not at all into craft beer or craft coffee ... but if craft orange juice esists, I'd be totally in.

FWIW, I have tasted many orange juices throughout the city, and the best I've had is from either Citarella or Agata Valentina. The former is more rounder, the latter is more acidic. Both are fuck-you expensive.

Are you giving us tasting notes on orange juice? You should start a separate thread.

separate threads inevitably draw sanctimonious pricks

I haven't tried it because I can't deal with Trader Joe's. Having said that, it's still an OJ that needs to be tried, so I'll put it on my list.

TJ's has the most idiotic checkout system in the city, but if you catch it at a decent time you can get in and out pretty quickly.

I love WF's check out line.

I love self-checkout because the odds of getting both a cashier who is not a dolt and a bagger who can put some stuff in a bag without crushing any of it are just too high. Of course, my neighborhood is 'hood-proximate, so we can't have self-checkout at our Safeway...

I don't see the point of trader joes, unless you really like packaged frozen TV dinners.

I've had lines at the TJ in Chelsea that wraps literally around the store run faster than WF only 10 or so people deep in each of the 3 lines.

The annoying part is navigating around the people in the line while gathering your goods. I refuse to grocery shop on Sundays and Mondays anywhere unless it's before 11 AM (who am I kidding?).

The 24 hour "gourmet" deli below my apartment has the best fresh squeezed OJ I've had in a while. It's sweeter than acidic, I dig it as a part of my hangover cure.

That Catskills blog post was eye rollingly vomit inducing. **edit But it did remind me that I need to check out the mid-Hudson cycling paths and routes...

^^Cheap OJ.

^^^As much as it pains me to say it, neighbour sugarbutch, the TJ's in NYC are even more ridiculous than the ones in SanFo. The line snakes through the store making it impossible to shop and when you finally make the checkout area they let you know which cashier is available by waving a fucking flag. To make matters worse, there's a guy who sole job is to tell you which perpetually happy cashier is waving the flag.

"Number 3, dude."

"No shit. There's a guy jumping up and down waving a red flag with a number 3 on it, but thanks. Dude."

NYC has many advantages but mass retail experiences are not among them.

real New Yorkers buy online, and then complain about shipping problems.
