Reasons why New York Sucks - Page 54

There's a cool amateur photo of the Brooklyn (or is it Manhattan) bridge with lights on exactly to the middle (Brooklyn side) and dark on the other half.

For the photo geeks, this was shot at ISO 25600 at 1/40 second. I'm not sure this shot would have been possible even a few years ago. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

the NY Mag website also had 10 or so other shots from that set. All are pretty awesome.

edit: and now I see that is your link.

it's the Manhattan bridge, at least judging by that photo above with one of the bridges half-out.

I love inclement weather.

walking from the train to the apartment last night was painful. Fast moving ice pellets hurt.

.. in any city.

was reading some old George Carlin and I came across a comparison a few of you Californian transplants might enjoy:

"California is like a small woman saying "Fuck me." New York is like a large man saying "FUCK YOU!""

I left the friendly confines of SF for a week+ stint in NYC and wanted to thank this thread for edumacating me on the sidewalk shed phenomenon. Fortunately the weather is tolerable and the city seems to have rebounded quickly from Sandy.

I love being here in small doses.

Just back from a long weekend. Pacino. Nutcracker. Balthazar. Vanessa's Dumplings. Peeked in the sanctuary of the church where I was confirmed in 1977 and heard "The Lord's Prayer" being sung in Korean. Forest Hills looks exactly the same... the Beechknoll commons is one of the greatest places in the world. Wow Astoria is a dump. I must get Junior's cookbook and make those Black & Whites. Cab ride from JFK to NoLiTa took sixteen hours but I enjoyed riding past Jamaica Hospital, the place at which I entered the world. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Sorry to disappoint those who are subscribed to this thread looking for more NYC suckage. Hell, even Astoria has Bohemian Hall. But it also has trash fucking everywhere. Zillow says the homes are selling for $800K and up and there's overstuffed lawn bags seeping sewage in damn near every driveway. When your neighborhood's community website has a thread confirming the filth, complete with links to government PDFs, man that's bad.
