Come on--it can't be that hard. Every freaking family on the UWS has a dog.

The suburbs is where you go to die.

Problem is, I am neither poor nor rich. Those two classes have no problems with dogs and apartment hunting.

Manhattan has a way of pushing people up and out.

How about Park Slope, or Brooklyn Heights, or *Ahem* Williamsburg. If you lived in the Heights, or the Slope your commute to work would be shorter than yours probably is now.

Maybe you scale back your ambitions and get a hamster? Or a goldfish? Maybe two?

Since we all die, that tends to imply it would be silly not to live in the suburbs.

I'm not sure the prices are all that much better. Anyway, I am a no-compromise kind of guy. If it can't be Manhattan, it will be out in the country.

Sadly, I understand that kind of thinking far too much.

I think prices are so bloated right now. Wait under the next market crash, we're due for one soon.

New dream: move out of Manhattan, buy an acre or two of wooded land off a winding road, and build something like this:

My apartment in Willliamsburg is significantly better than my UES apartment. And it has a roof terrace, private garden and BBQ area, underground storage, etc.

I would get so bored and rot living outside of the metropolis. Plus, what would I complain about?
