Eastern Long Island, North Fork. John Steinbeck died there and his widow still lives there.

No idea, I'm the only person alive who's never been to the Hamptons. In fact, I'm not sure I've even been to Suffolk County.

Am I not a person? Or not alive?

If you live in NY, or have ever lived in NY, and never been to the Hamptons, you are a non-person. May as well be dead.

Here is one reason NY is cool: I am seeing Tom Wolfe again next week. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif When I am old and repetetive, I will tell everyone over and however how in my (relative) youth, I got to hang out with the 20th century's Dickens.

he's got a place in the Hamptons, so already he's cooler than you.

yeah, but he rents. I own my summer home. Or, sort of.

I've made it a point not to go to the Hamptons. I don't know, it takes a long time to get there, I hate the beach, it just sounds like a really long, boring, torturous trip to me. I honestly think most people go there just to say they went there.

the beaches there are lovely. and you can say "spending the weekend in the Hamptons, are you staying in the city during the heat wave?"
I haven't been in water for recreational purposes in probably over 10 years.

Esepcially with the MTA in such great shape, I bet a trip that used to be 3 hrs by rail is now at least 5.

I remember Greg maybe last year making a post about how awful his trip to the Hamptons was. IIRC, it was because of how crowded it was and all of the degenerates on the train also.
