met up with friends yesterday who asked me what they should do on St. Patrick's day. i told them to stay home, pop a beer, and watch a violent movie in the safe confines of their living room.

That's true of about any major US metro area though. By 9:30am they'll have the area of downtown Detroit referred to as "Cork Town" literally cordoned off from traffic and drunks will already be puking in public.

in other cities, you can mostly avoid the mess though. In NYC, you're dealing with these idiots on your train ride home.
