Am very much dreading the SuperBowl next week.

Just received the following from my office:
Quote:
"As you are likely aware, the National Football League Super Bowl XLVIII will be played in East Rutherford, New Jersey, at MetLife Stadium on February 2. In the run-up to the big game, there will be significant traffic and travel disruptions in the New York Tri-State area due to the various events associated with the game.

The events will include the “NFL Experience” along “Super Bowl Boulevard” in New York, a 14-block venue that will stretch from 34th Street to 48th Street along Broadway, from January 28 – February 2. Super Bowl Boulevard will be closed to vehicular traffic southbound for four days preceding the game. The west side of Manhattan on the Hudson River, including the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum at Pier 88, will also be taken over with multiple activities."

SuperBowl Boulevard? What kind of bullshit is this? So now in addition to the normal nonsense I have to deal with in Midtown, I have to deal with mass street closings for a full week, along with even larger masses of clueless tourists?

And since when was the SuperBowl a week long? JFC.

They've been milking the Super Bowl during the preceding week for some time now, but taking over a street in a different state is a new one AFAIK. Ridiculous.

a bunch of pictures of this came up on my facebook feed last night. the reason why it happened is full MTA fail.

LOL. It's reassuring to know those high-salary MTA employees are fully competent.

So what is NYC weather usually like around the middle or end of October? How's the tourist level?
Oct is good weather, tourists you just have to avoid, don't walk on Fifth between say 50th until central park, or any where near time square, then you should be fine

middle October is the best time. No summer heat, no winter chill, and tourist level is manageable. July is too hot, January is too cold, and December is a tourist nightmare.

Hmm. Giving an October visit serious thought depending on how selling my rental house goes.

I think we should turn this event into a SF meat up.

This is going to make things much worse.

+1. summer rush of tourists is over by then and it is too early for the holiday tourist wave. october is a great time to visit the city.

October is the best month of the year in New York. Weather is usually great and its between the two peak tourist seasons.
