I've never lost an umbrella but I have broken four.

Can't even count the number I've lost. Last time it happened, I left it in a bar after too many G&Ts.

That too, M. Nice umbrellas are beautiful, but umbrellas are effectively disposable in this city, so I really don't want to spend that kind of money on one.

My James Smith in cherry bark is the best I own. I only take it out for occasions I know it'll never leave my side. My HY whangee is used more often. I have cheap umbrellas for when I am in danger of leaving it somewhere.

no, I just find it funny how each person can use "literature" to support their own views. But I will give you that there is a stereotype that republicans are not caring.

I take it you don't know the difference between "literature" and the phrase "the literature" meaning "scientific" or "social scientific literature" which compiles data about various social phenomena. Which was the meaning in this case, and you are wrong.

In any event, this thread is about bitching about New York, not chicken shit word play, hair splitting and necro-posting from sanctimonious ignorant liberals, so take it somewhere else.

I'm not sure what my "views" are other than to report what empirical evidence shows. It's like posting "lol" if I were to say data shows Dems are more likely to be accepting of gay marriage. While I think conservatism would dictate one should accept, nay demand, gay marriage it is incontrovertible that those considered "conservative" in the US are far less likely to accept gay marriage than those that identify as Dems. Likewise, empirical data shows those that identify as Repubs give more to charity that those that identify as liberal and the health literature shows Repubs tend to be healthier in many metrics.

Edit: what Manton said. Let's drop it.

I am not a true New Yorker, if you have read the thread, that should be the very first thing to become clear to you.

I'm probably tougher than you think, but that said, I haven't threatened you. I just have said that you are an ill mannered fool, which is the manifest truth. I've also said that you should get out of this thread since you don't know what it is about and are only shitting it up.
Actually, you have been the ill mannered one

No. Your necroposted LOL represents everything wrong with liberalism and everything wrong with the internet. It's just an ignorant drive-by comment. You are wrong. The studies cited are correct. Republicans/conservatives DO statistically give more to charity and ARE overall healthier. So the NY Mag piece, while amusing, is based on false premises. Premises which are not merely false but which tongue-bathe certain cherished liberal totems. You can't handle the truth, to quote Col. Jessup, so you necro-snark as a psychological salve.

I know the drill, I've seen it a million times. It still irritates me, as is plainly evident, but in this case especially so as you have polluted a thread that "works." There's a lot of bitching and bile in here but it's all on topic and not antagonistic to the participants. In other words, there is community, a disparate community, which has come together to agree and disagree, sometimes heatedly, but always on the basis of a mutually understood commonality.

And you come along like a cross between a low-rent Jon Stewart and a Stalinist block captain to politicize the community, to divide and snark, because to you and people like you everything is political. Friends and enemies. Well, we have a little community here in which left and right come together to find what little common ground we can. Recruit your comrades elsewhere. Go and undermine others. We don't want you.

Certainly, as the thread starter, I don't want you.
