Reasons why New York Sucks - Page 93

This is a thread full of people that live in New York--we're all familiar with what living in a tiny apartment is like. And despite what you might read in design magazines, there is nothing glamorous or fun about it, no matter how many cute ways they find to gussy it up.

If you really like it, that's fine, but don't go proselytizing about how awesome it is and how everyone who disagrees just needs to read more shitty design blogs, because the vast, vast majority of people, most especially those who have done it, would disagree.

All those tiny apartments in design magazines and blogs are fine to look at, but I doubt you'd find many people who liked living in them, or who wouldn't choose to have a bigger place if at all possible.

I would, but too much of my time is used up by the immense distances I have to walk to get around my apartment.

I got lost trying to find the bathroom this morning, and it just set my whole day back.

I'm now living in smallest place of my 6 years of living in NYC, which has really cut down on the extraneous shit I seemed to have NEEDED before.

That said, oh hell yeah I'd prefer an even slightly bigger place.

The average American home is too large, but that doesn't mean that the average NY apartment isn't too small. People make do, but it's definitely a trade-off for the city's upsides.

I can get by with a very small living space, but I need abundant storage space. It's miserable having to look at ugly objects like laundry detergent and mops and umbrellas and all that other bullshit if they're lying around.

You go to your storage space for an umbrella?

not that I have a lot of stuff. I just want it to look like I have slightly more than nothing.

Add me to the chorus of "Don't wanna look at mops, brooms, and vacuum cleaners." I can hang in a 300 sq ft apartment (with a 300 sq ft closet).

has anyone informed NY that it's fucking March 8th?

Also, WABC--which used to be a good radio station--is now complete trash. Endless commercial breaks. the worst commercials in the business, so bad that they make me pine for censorship; Imus the useless toad is never working--$20 million a year to be on vaction every day--the B-team is always on; more infomercials than you can believe, on what is supposed to the top station in the top media market--they can't find real programming to fill those slots? The same lousy company also bought all the radio stations in SF and promptly ruined them. KGO is now a shell. Bastards.

I only now listen to WQXR, which is OK, but a very weak signal. In a metaphor for America, what use to be the country's biggest and best classical station sold their old signal to a spanish station and bought a smaller one that has 10% of the power. Yay!

Actually, all they need to do is stroll thru an Ikea. They make closets look luxe.
