Reasons why New York Sucks - Page 751

Yeah I was on my roof smoking a cigar (forecast said the storms would roll in at 7pm) when the rain starting lightly pattering at 6:30 and I looked up to see a quickly darkening sky with winds picking up. I put out the remaining third of the cigar and hightailed it inside because I knew that song.

I was actually bummed out by the storm. Just rain and wind. The radar made it seem like lightning and thunder doom, but no, just rain.

MTA's slogan should be "Try Atlanta for a week. See, bitches?" In fact, that might be the only slogan that makes MTA look good.

In the mist of all the chaos and uncertainty in the world today, it is comforting to know that some things don't change.

A naked man who taunted police from atop the TKTS booth in Times Square became a rush-hour distraction and a social media spectacle for nearly an hour Thursday as bystanders recorded video of his antics before he fell from his perch.

Best quote, for just so many reasons,

“Might stop watching,” she tweeted. “Worried I might see a human fall off a building.”

So, I recently heard from several DC friends that the Metro is a total mess (I sort of knew that) and even that it closes every night at 7 pm (I did not know that). Also, traffic is at Armageddon levels and commute times have double or tripled.

In the interest of fairness and intellectual honesty, let me say how much I appreciate the MTA in these troubled times and how glad I am to live here rather than there.

After I posted that I googled it, and could not find confirmation. But two people told me that over the past weekend. So I don't know.

That did strike me as odd. Was it supposed to be a temporary thing? The official line is that it runs until midnight.

I have found this whole saga really sad. It wasn't that long ago that DC had the best metro in the country. Back then, it was the NY metro that was falling apart.

The NY metro is still held together with bailing wire, duct tape being too new-fangled for MTA management. But it is also still running much as it has done forever while the DC metro is facing the real possibility of total shut down. That would be an unimaginable catastrophe for DC. If the metro shut down, I don't know what would happen. If everyone decided to drive, forget the traffic, I do not believe it would be physically possible for everyone to park.

And every official line that comes out of DC is entirely truthful.
