there's a really nice area with lots of high rises and white people and trash cans off the Bedford stop. Beyond that and it can get pretty gross (one block good, the next block meh, etc.)

Most places in Manhattan don't have trashcans (where the hell would they be stored?) that I've seen, except for some very residential neighborhoods. Trash bags are dragged to and left on the sidewalk, which are especially terrible from any places that handle large amounts of food. Not to mention the dog excrement and urine and general debris (other trash) floating around the city.

I like it when some buildings hose or power wash their sidewalks several times a week.

And then, eventually, you get to where Gomestar lives, out in the projects.

Think you mean dumpsters? I feel like there is a trash can on every corner in the city.

Dumping in those corner cans is illegal, also the city dept of sanitation workers often spread more trash than they collect when emptying these.

Where do you see dumpsters in any great quantity in Manhattan? I see them sometimes wheeled out from huge buildings on trash nights, mostly it's just garbage bags lining sidewalks. Otherwise there are those trash cans that are kept in front of some residential walk ups, but even in those cases the bags are taken out and left by the curb on trash nights.

Oh you're talking about the trash cans that you see in the 'burbs. I thought you were talking about trash cans in general.
