Reasons why New York Sucks - Page 681
I'm not a local so I yield to your experience, but is a cab from Brooklyn to midtown really better than uber? You might have to wait a little longer -- and even that's not a sure thing -- but it seems like uber wins on every other measure of merit.
I'm surprised that you need reservations for the tenement museum. You'd think they could always squeeze a couple of more people in.
Any suggestions? My plans thus far:
Thurs - shake shack lunch, touristy brklyn bridge pics, then met, moma, guggenheim, and a stroll in central park. Then dinner at Frank's restaurant in manhattan. Dont know where to afterwards.
Friday - gf wants to see times square (i dont really care for it) and then she wants to see the 9/11 memorial. We will be at momofuku ko for dinner. No idea what to do after (maybe santos party house for a show?).
Saturday - evening dinner at frankies 457 in brklyn.
Your Thursday plan isn't possible. I mean you could go to each of those museums in one afternoon, but not go inside and actually see anything. If any of them has a show you particularly want to see, go there. If you like modern art, go to the MOMA. If you want to see a broad sampling of cool stuff, go to the Met. If you just want to want the Gugg ramp, go there.
Shake Shack is way overrated. I don't have a good alternative. I'd seek out something more unusual. Personally, I'd go to Totto Ramen (not unusual but a enjoy it a lot).
Skip Times Square and go to the Village/Chelsea instead. Walk the Highline. Just walk. The 9/11 memorial is actually worth seeing. In concept, it's susceptible to being critiqued as schmaltz, but I think it actually works.
On such a short trip I'd recomend Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty before any museum. It offers a nice little boat ride with a postcard view of Manhattan thrown in. Maybe grab some bicycles and ride around the city, parks and paths. Drinks at Grand Central/Campbell Apt.
If you want to visit the SOL and Ellis Island, again, you need tickets and need to get them ASAP. Also, going first thing In the AM is recommended so not sure if this can fit in with what you want to do the rest of the day.
