This. I can't even count the number of people I know who moved here out of college for an internship or entry level job paying about 30k if they were lucky. Most of them lived in nice neighborhoods, many of them in doorman buildings, and went out all. the. time. They certainly weren't doing it on their own salary.

When my wife and I moved here, we were making 80k in combined income and living together in a 1BR in Brooklyn, and it was still quite difficult to make ends meet and have enough money leftover to do anything other than stay in the apartment every weekend and watch TV. I can promise you those people making 30k are not doing it on their own. That literally would barely pay their share of a 3BR in Bushwick.

One of the NYC ladies I boan is 23 or 24 and makes $85K as a nurse. She definitely isn't hurting for money.

Then again most 24 year olds that move to NYC aren't making $85K.

About bloody time...

 

Acclaimed design studio Pentagram has worked with the New York City’s Department of Transportation (DOT) to create new, simplified parking signs that are more easily understood. 

Unlike the old signs, the new ones have a more consistent and simplified layout that reduces the number of words from 250 to about 140—making the signs less visually cluttered. 

"New York City’s parking signs can sometimes be a five-foot-high totem pole of confusing information,” said DOT Commissioner Sadik-Khan. “Parking signs play an important role in setting the rules at the curbside and these changes will make regulations easier to read and take the stress out of figuring where and when you can legally park.”

They did a great job. Easily worth 250K, if not more.
