When I was a kid one of our family dogs couldn't handle city life so we shipped her off to our farm where she flourished. Totally different dog.

there's plenty of dogs and dog breeds that are great in the city. A lot of it comes down to energy level and temperament.

if you want a cattle dog but live in NYC, I hope you like to run

This. Make the record. I think making a report is almost a duty exactly because you do not know. If this were a friend/neighbor and you knew the dog, it might be different. But you really have no idea what this dog is like. If he was just having a bad day and this was a one-off, there's no harm done in reporting it. But if he is -- or is becoming -- a serial biter, then at some point, steps need to be taken to keep the dog from biting people. This doesn't mean he'll get put down, far from it. There are lots of intermediate steps before you get to that.

But if you don't make a record, and he is a serial biter, someone else will get bitten who need not have been before the owners are forced to take action.

I'm all about dogs. But I am often not so keen on owners, especially stupid, entitled, inconsiderate ones. So make a record and let the chips fall where they may.

BTW, IIRC, one of the advantages of reporting is that the authorities will make the owner produce documentary evidence that the dog has had his shots.

Reported.

I love dogs but I also support the idea that owners should be held accountable, in some way, for the actions of their dogs.

I feel the same thing about children.

I rarely see dog poop on the sidewalk. Almost never in the city. On the rarest occasion in my 'hood.

I see it a lot in Williamsburg, but that's because Williamsburg has a trash problem.

Don't let your guard down. One day you're going to not see it, and then you'll feel it. And then you'll be that guy who makes a poop trail going to the side of the sidewalk, and then you'll be that guy who makes long streaks of poop in an effort to get it off your shoe.

All the while people who pass by will be thinking to themselves "ha, dude just stepped in shit. Sucks."

And oblivious person on cell phone with dog leash extending across the sidewalk.

The areas with dog poop in Williamsburg are the areas where there is construction, or development. People assume, meh nobody lives right here, and there is low traffic, I'm just gonna leave it here. I have daydreams where I catch some dick not pick up his dog's shit and I go up to him take out a platinum Desert Eagle .50 caliber and blow his dog's head off and keep walking.

Come on dude.  Do you blame your parents for all the stupid things that you've done as a kid?  Think just for a second - picture some of the stupid shit you've done... got it?  Now blame your parents for you doing it.   Does that feel right to you?

Kids are not to be controlled, trained or leashed by their parents.   They have their own free will and they learn from their mistakes.

^^^ Why I can't believe some people are okay wearing shoes in the house.
