So what is the deal with the AE Mora?

Every reference I see to it on SF is really meta and I feel like I'm missing out on some inside joke or hidden meaning. What is the actual perception of this shoe?

It's a double monk, now discontinued. The double monk style is one of those internet trends, and it's pretty polarizing.

Some love it, some hate it.

The new version is this

Built on a different last.

It was a relatively inexpensive double monk, and it was kind of a favorite before it blew up all over on the internet (thanks sid mashburn). FWIW I like the old mora more.

Why does AE say it was ahead of its time? Did it not sell well?

The Neumora is not nearly as nice as the old Mora. I'm not a fan of the new last shape.

See above edit. With the Neumora, AE is trying to do make a sleeker, more contemporary last - the 333. However, whereas the C&J 348 or 337 lasts manage to accomplish this, the AE iteration falls short. The last the original Mora was on is timeless and classic - what AE does best.

I'd have to see it in person, but my impression from the pics is that I prefer the original Mora. The shape of the last doesn't appeal to me as much as the original.

My virgin Moras, original issue. I haven't tried on a pair of Neumoras so cannot comment on fit but I don't mind the new design.
