nassau / panama city. Worth spending time in?

I'm planning a trip and while i intend to spend most of my time in a rental house w/ private beach on one of the out islands of the bahamas, I'm wondering if either nassau or panama city are worth doing some sight seeing in? Would 1-3 days in either or both be worth it since I will be passing through anyway?

Thanks.

yes, panama. I'm flying there before flying to the Bahamas. I could stay a day or two, if it's worth it. I guess keep in mind that I've visited quite a few south American cities at this point. fiancée has seen less though...

I really like the canal, that is pretty much the only thing to see. that's a day or so.

Is there a particular area I should go to at the canal?

two options - there is a visitors center, where you can have a beer at a bar and watch a lock for a while. that is pretty much the only place that you can comfortably watch the canal work. the operation of the lock is very cool. the other option is that you can take a short cruise on the canal, I think its a day or so, and you go trough it from side to side. I haven't done the cruise, but I've heard its cool.

the rest of the town is pretty unimpressive. no really good food, nothing really great to see. pretty sleezy, too. lots of hookers on the street.

Aren't you in Canada? Why on earth are you going to the Bahamas by way of Panama?

if you like to party panama is nice... but culturally dead if you want that sort of thing. Another option in panama would be to check out chiriqui for the coffee it is a 4 hour drive though.

on another note
If you like rum, the bristol hotel bar is hard to beat.

yes, you are basically in a bar, 4 stories above the canal, looking down on the locks. its pretty cool. it gives you a great undersanding of how it works.

Cool. I just booked my flight. I'm flying into Panama on the 13th and then flying to Nassau on the 15th. I might give Nassau 2 days before we go off to the beach house but I haven't figured out all the details for that part of the trip yet.
