Gucci vs Prada suit ?

Hello gentlemen wink.gif
This may sound like utter crazyness to some of you, but I need to get myself a suit and it has to be fashion forwards... (No it's not for clubbing or whatever, it's just a different professional need)
I have always enjoyed the Italian aesthetic so I've decided to settle for one of these 2, but I'll need some real help.
How do they compare in term of cuts ? What's the difference between a Gucci "Brea" and a "Signoria" ? Is a brand offering a lower rise than the other (my body is not perfect - my torso is on the shorter side, and I actually need the lower rise I can find to look proportionate) ? Which brand offers the best construction ?
I really need all the help and all the info I can find...
No flamming please, I know this will be overpriced designer crap in many ways - but I've got to do what I have to do...

From a quick, casual look at both cuts on the Gucci site, I'd say that the $1000+ difference between the Brera and the Signoria means that the Brera is the better suit. The fabrics are probably superior and it appears to be a touch slimmer. (Brera leg opening 7.9" - Signoria 8.3")

I don't think either are canvas construction as they reserve that designation for the "Marseille." The fact that it is made with canvas construction is in the description.

If you live anywhere near a Gucci store, pop in and try them on.

I have a Navy Prada suit that's marked 40R, but it's pretty slim all over. High armholes, soft shoulders. Quality feels decent, but would never have paid retail for it.

It does look awesome though, and is probably the best fitting OTR suit I've owned.

Thanks for the first feedbacks. I totally forgot to ask about Prada's pricing - There are a few reasonably priced Gucci suit around here (Mr.Porter / Matches...) 1000/1200 euros. Is Prada on par ? I am not sure I want to spend too much either.

There are 2 tiers of Gucci suits; canvassed and fused. The more expensive ones are likely canvassed.

Well, how do the 2 brand compares in term of cut and fit ?

Both of the brand are cut slim and form fitting. Gucci is cut slimmer. Usually a size 40-42 Gucci can fit someone that usually wear size 38. For quality, from my personal experience, they are quite equal but, Gucci is a lot more expensive than Prada. The main reason for that is Gucci made quite a name for itself during the time it was under the direction of Tom Ford. Also, a lot of Prada's stuff as a touch of funkiness in them so, if you are more into conservative wear, you might want to go with Gucci.

Prada's jackets are cut a little short; Gucci is closer to a traditional cut.

The canvassed ones are made by Zegna, at least the ones currently in Bergdorf's. Prada is Belvest i think though not too sure on that one.

All Gucci suits are made by Zegna; even the fused ones.

The best way to differentiate is to look at the regular price (canvassed ones are 2000+). The fused ones are under that.

Also, the runway/fashion suits are usually fused as well, and this is reflected in the price.

I own one Gucci SC and it has the most aggressive cut I've seen on an SC.

I like the solid navy Prada suits. I had to go up a size, but it fit perfectly. If you want a clean, modern lean look, try them. They also have longs if you think they are too short.

Correcto-mondo the upper tier Prada suits are Belvest made. Basically, a very good suit and cant go wrong with them. Even the entry level Prada suits were at least half canvassed although I have no idea on their maker.

Gucci quality is consistent with Zegna Mainline (basically good). I have noticed a lot of Gucci suits in an outlet I visited recently were totally fused so they obviously offer two levels, one good, one so so.

I am pretty sure the Gucci suits of today are not a par with the suits of yesteryear - the older TF era Gucci suits I have owned / seen must have been a par with Zegna Couture.

Thank you very much wink.gif It's pretty much the same thing in the end, I am not really planning on buying the high end, so it won't be a Belvest / Zegna... more like half canvassed whatever...
What about the pant rise though ? Don't forget my very personal requirements wink.gif
Can anyone tell which brand have the lowest rise ?
