My new favorite lacing method.

I know it isn't anything new, and bar lacing always looks nice on 6-eyelet shoes, but how have I not been using this all along for my 5-eyelet shoes? Looks so much better than standard "criss-cross". I especially like the way it looks on whole-cut shoes. Reminds me of an old baseball mitt.

I prefer it for bluchers, but stick to bar lacing for balmorals

I use something like this. Not really a fan of bar lacing -- yeah it looks neat, but getting the ends the same length / adjusting the tightness is super irritating.

I definitely enjoy the clean lines of bar lacing but the problem is that it doesn't work perfect with 5 eyelets. Even if the eyelet tabs are pulled all the way together, hiding the one lace that has to cross over, I still know it's there and I cannot abide imperfection! haha

Plus, you gotta branch out once in a while. Am I gonna do bar lacing on oxfords when we go to formal dinners and galas and such? Definitely, but not all of life is that formal. Spice it up sometimes.
