But the OG colors are still being whored out on a yearly basis. Can't blame Nike if the crappy colors keeps selling.

Also, Kobe 9

I think I'll be done for the year after the black/red AJ 1. Unless I can find a woven lunar chukka as well

But are they selling? Take the OG 1's - the only CW's that sold out were the OG colourways. The other bullshit they put out is still sitting on shelves.

Exactly. It's just like a plan b for a lot of people. "oh I didn't get the fire reds so I'll get these shitty things instead".
The same reason all the "flight" monstrosity's and jordan branded, non-Jordans (if that makes sense) are all over the place - because people see the jumpman and get all hyped up about it for no reason.

The shit that Drake is doing is just pointless, the only reason for it is because they are 11's so people think they are dope no matter what ugly ass colourway they put on them.

To an extend. My coworker wanted to cop some retroes for her son. She will not be getting in line or jump thru hoops for them. She settled for the 6 Rings or whatever they're called in the same colorway since that model didn't sell. Her 8 year old son is happy and they got the $120 or whatever it cost for the shoes from her.

I actually kinda like the idea of the Kobe 9's, but they lose me after the ankle. Would be better as a low or mid instead of that elongated shoe/sock thing from the 28's. Other than that, any excuse for my flyknit is good with me.

To RFX's defense, look at the Bel Air 5s or Fear Pack. Horrible colorways that sold out due to hype. As long as they are heat they will sell.

If they make these Drake Jordans all quick strikes, they will sell.

Yes they are selling, even if they make it to the sales rack they still sell, even if they make it to the outlets they still sell. It doesn't always have to sell out or be sold at retail price for Nike to make money on it.

At the end of the day, Nike knows exactly what it is doing. They produce these less than stellar colorways and make less profit but it is on purpose, it makes the release of OG colorways much more hyped and they can release it every half decade or so because of the demand and still sell out.

There is a reason Jordans is still Nikes biggest money maker.

The Jordan Brand, a division of Nike, is responsible for the vast majority of MJ’s earnings. Jordan partnered with Nike after being drafted by the Bulls out of North Carolina in 1984. The original five-year deal was worth $500,000 annually, plus royalties. The terms of Jordan’s current deal with Nike are a closely guarded secret, but royalties now generate more than $60 million annually for MJ, according to sources.

Nearly 30 years later, the brand is still a marketing juggernaut. It controlled 58% of the U.S. basketball shoe market in 2012, according to research firm SportsOneSource. The Jordan Brand’s parent, Nike, was second with a 34% share, while Adidas (5.5%), Reebok (1.6%) and Under Armour (0.6%) divvied up the leftovers.

In comparison, JB alone made $2b in US sales while the next biggest name is Lebron at $300m, just imagine that gap. And yes, that is mainly due to all the Team Jordans and crappy retroes that JB/Nike puts out.

Today’s NBA stars are all still looking up at global icon Michael Jordan. The Nike-owned Jordan Brand has been on fire with $2 billion in U.S. sales in 2012, according to SportsOneSource. Susquehanna Financial analyst Christopher Svezia estimates the brand grew 25-30% globally in 2012. The royalty agreement is worth more than $60 million annually for Jordan, who last played an NBA game in 2003.

U.S. Retail Basketball Shoe Sales:

LeBron James (Nike): $300 million

Kobe Bryant (Nike): $50 million

Carmelo Anthony (Jordan): $40 million

Kevin Durant (Nike): $35 million

Derrick Rose (Adidas): $25 million

John Wall (Reebok): $5 million

Dwight Howard (Adidas): $5 million

I have money on Lebron being a bigger brand than Jordan in 10 years. Just watch.

And is that still a sale for Nike/Jordan? Is that still money going to the Oregon juggernauts pockets? HELL TO THE FUCKING YES!!!

You just proved my point, thank you very much. lol8[1].gif

Ya'll act like all these shoes has to sell at retail for Nike to make a buck. Buy them at 50% off and Nike still make their profit.

And yes, if Drake shoes are ugly (though it's a fucking all white IXs and it's ugly?) but limited and kids shoot each other for them, then Nike still made them dollars now didn't they?

It's plausible - Lebron only sells his own shoes in different colorways and afaik hasn't retro'do anything yet. And he's already $300m of the way there. If he goes the way of Jordan when he retires and gets the current stars to wear his shoes, he'll vastly increase his reach

Nope!

Lebron are getting uglier and uglier, Jordans didn't go downhill in design until it hit the high teens. Actually, the XXs and XXIs were still decent, the past maybe 5 have been close to terrible but they still sell at close to $200 retail on performance alone.

Only Lebron that is good are I-III, IV is decent but anything after that can be considered a Team Jordan type of shoes. Doesn't help that his shoes are built for him so they are heftier and bulkier and heavier and those just do not sell as well performance-wise, I hated playing ball in Lebrons.

Not to mention that Jordans aren't going away anytime soon.

I'm not saying that Nike isn't making money off them, just that they are ugly. I understand it from a business standpoint and as a hype engine, but it doesn't make the shoes less ugly.

Exactly.

Well it sure sounds like you agreed with him though.
