If you live in NYC, Mercer should be the last place you try and buy any hyped up release. Your best bet is to hit up a mom & pop in any of the boroughs a few days before release and pay an extra $30 or $40 and save yourself the hassle of having to line up.
where do you find information on raffles, etc in the NYC area? sorry for the noob questions.
edit: nm found information on reddit on how to get new releases.
Call the local Footlockers, Champs, etc and ask them what's the procedure. Most give out raffle tickets during the week of so they will call you if they choose your ticket for you to buy. Note that this process is sometimes rigged since no one monitors it. Some places still do first come first serve aka line but most don't do that anymore since the folks standing in line are lunch meat for the goons. Recent killings have pushed for such procedure.
If you don't mind paying more you can try eBay and Craigslist too. For me, it's retail or bust though for these low quality shoes Nike is putting out nowadays. Also, if you get a pair don't be surprised if the painted midsole cracks with a couple of wears, a common problem for the 3 and 4.
On a different note, anyone know when the next batch of Nike Frees is supposed to drop? Sneak peeks? I haven't really liked any of the Frees from the last year or so. I wish Nike would go back to a simpler design, à la the Free Run+ from three years ago:
I had this exact pair but wore them out a while ago. I really like the neutral colors and tongue-less design. Probably my favorite Nike running shoes ever. I'd kill for another pair of those... Edited by Flyswatter - 7/2/13 at 1:26pm
