Has anyone had any experience with this bag or any J.Crew bags?

If so, how is the:

Quality?

Durability?

If not, any other alternatives with similar style would be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

tgod,

I'm somewhat of a bag whore, but my main focus is mountaineering/combat packs. Having said that, I know what it takes to make a good bag (construction-wise) AND I do own one of J Crew's messenger bags from last season. It was around the price point of the Abingdon, but that wasn't a thing back then - it was just a waxed canvas messenger bag. More back story:

On dappered.com the OP regales stories of hit-and-miss designs with J Crew bags. Some designs seemed indestructible (relatively), while others would show up at your door looking like a completely different color from the website and would begin deteriorating in weeks. The bag I purchased was touted as one of the longer lasting bags. When I got the bag I gave it a look through, noticed fair construction that would last if I didn't weigh it down with unreasonable amounts of stuff, and the canvas looked to be durable enough (waxed canvas is a pretty staunch staple these days).

Their new line of multiple options, Abingdon, seems to be done in a higher quality than some of their old stuff, and from good materials. I wouldn't be afraid to buy it, truth be told. In fact, the one I bought last year is still going strong and it sees a decent amount of use. I added an extra layer of wax to the canvas with a product called Otter Wax and it can withstand a decent rain pretty well. If that's the bag and style you really want, go for it. If you want an alternative from a pretty well-known brand in this arena, I suggest trying herschel for your price point:

Let me know if you have any more questions. Have fun!

I own this bag. I got on deep discount. I think I paid around $60. I am extremely happy with the quality and durability for the price. The material is not very thick, but it's fairly durable.
