A long time ago I started collecting ties from thrift stores and estate sales. I've been reading the forum quite a bit lately and have thrown out the novelty ties and others I found amusing but never wore.

I don't wear ties to work and never will, as I do water resources field work. I occasionally wear ties on the weekend when my wife and I go out in the city. I would like to hear some opinions on which I should get rid of.

Thank you!

It's a difficult question to answer withou knowing what's in your wardrobe and how you like to dress on those occasions when you wear a tie.
Context is everything in a question like this.

Now,myou could always just send Q, R, S, T and 13, 14 & 16 to me and you'd definitely reduce your collection. :)

The ones I might consider wearing:

QRST (although you probably only need one or two out of these)

3

8,10

V,W

14

Don't like but aren't offensive:

KLM,O

BDE

7, depending on exactly how wide it is. over 4" and it gets dumped into the next category

9

possibly Y and 16, 17, 18 can't really tell from pics

Ugly and should be torched IMHO:

all others

What size suits you wear? are you a slimmer guy? more heavy set? what color shirts and suits do you typically wear?

5, 6, K, L ,M, n, O, P, 12, 15 , F, a, b, c, 1, 9

If you are bigger just kill all the slim ties. I also added all your super skinny ties,

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry for the lack of context. I'm 6'1" and 150 lbs. I've got a dark grey worsted wool suit and a navy wool suit on the way. I also have two navy SCs, one is a tweed. I have a grey SC and sort of olive cordoroy SC as well. I am planning on getting some more sport coats over the next year or two. I'm still building up a shirt collection and have solid light blue, medium fine check, think alternating white and blue striped linen shirt, and solid white shirts currently.

Honestly, I think you could dispense with about 90% of those ties and not lose any sleep over them.

^I'd work on getting more shirts before thinking about any more jackets. Given your description, the QSRT ties don't really fit in anywhere. They're very summery, to be worn with casual cotton and linen jackets and whatnot.
Yeah, while I have a lot of button up shirts, it's become apparent that I need more shirts that can be worn with ties. Yeah, I haven't worn any of them yet, but I do like most of them. I'm hanging onto them until I get a proper summer suit or jacket.

And a couple months of joblessness have kept me from buying better shirts or even jackets for that matter. Thankfully that changed this week.
