Wearing Light-Colored Ties - Page 4

In all those cases, though, I think I'd prefer a dark brown tie.

I like Cucinelli's muted palette more than some here, but the above is too muted for me.

^Not too dark. A touch darker than the jacket would work best, IMO. A light brown rather than a tan.

Jah, can see that. Depends on the color of the trouser, partly. If it's a suit, or if the palette is very muted, shouldn't go too dark.

Holdfast, I think that would look great with a wool tie or a slubby shantung or a knit silk tie, all in dark tan or light brown.

Maybe on Jay Gatsby but anyone else...

I just cannot get behind this. It is too reminiscent of a '70s prom outfit.

It's photographed beautifully, anyway. Lose the moody lighting, the handsome model and the lovely coat and what's left is quite common -- a yellow tie, blue shirt and dark gray suit. It's a pairing that doesn't do much for me. Having the coat there really elevates the look ... but what about when the overcoat comes off?

It's a good example of how stuff that looks good in a mag or fashion blog doesn't always translate into real life.

I don't care for the ps in the overcoat breast pocket. Looks silly to my eye.

Dandies will continue to debate the merits of the PS in the overcoat breast pocket until the ends of time.

Me today:

I love that shade of bluey-green in the overcoat. At the risk of sounding incredibly effeminate, I think it works great for this guy's complexion.

I like that teal coat. too. I think if it were navy or gray, the photo would lose much of its punch.

Not digging the PS, it looks too much like a tie... but I like the colours.
